Sofie's work circles around memory, identity, and her Vietnamese roots. At the heart of it is her Bà Nội and the women who may have shared her world. Because she never really got to know her grandmother's story, she works from fragments: old photographs, landscapes, traces of history, small everyday moments. Painting becomes a way of reaching toward something just out of reach.

Her canvases hold that in-between space, restrained, quietly present, somewhere between remembering and imagining.
